Vermont’s Best Swimming Holes & Waterfalls Near Zenbarn

swimming holes near Zenbarn in Waterbury

One of Vermont’s greatest treasures isn’t found in a ski resort, brewery, or scenic byway—it’s our incredible rivers, waterfalls, swimming holes, and mountain lakes.

If you’re visiting Zenbarn for a concert, wedding, festival, dinner, or weekend getaway, make some time to cool off and experience one of the things locals love most about summer in Vermont.

Here are a few of our favorite spots, all within a short drive of Zenbarn.

Bingham Falls

If you only have time for one swimming hole, Bingham Falls is hard to beat. A short hike leads you into a dramatic gorge carved by centuries of rushing water. Crystal-clear pools, towering rock walls, and a beautiful waterfall make this one of Vermont’s most iconic swimming destinations. The hike is relatively short, but the terrain can be steep and slippery, so take your time and wear appropriate footwear.

Foster’s Hole

A longtime local favorite tucked along Notch Brook, Foster’s Hole offers a deep swimming pool, smooth rock ledges, and plenty of sunny spots to relax. Less crowded than some of the better-known destinations, it’s a great place to spend a warm afternoon soaking in classic Vermont scenery.

Warren Falls

If you’re up for a scenic drive down Route 100, Warren Falls is worth every mile. Famous for its emerald pools, cascading waterfalls, and natural rock slides, this is one of the most beloved swimming holes in Vermont. On hot summer days you’ll find locals and visitors alike cooling off in the refreshing mountain water.

Blueberry Lake

Not everyone wants to swim in a river. For a calmer experience, Blueberry Lake in Warren offers peaceful swimming, paddling, fishing, and stunning mountain views. It’s a wonderful spot to bring a picnic, launch a kayak, or simply relax by the water and enjoy Vermont’s natural beauty.

Waterbury Reservoir

The Waterbury Reservoir is one of the area’s most versatile outdoor destinations. The beach is perfect for families, with calm water for swimming and paddling. You’ll find picnic areas, BBQ grills, fishing access, boat launches, and nearby camping at Little River State Park (reservations are recommended during peak season). Whether you’re looking to spend an hour or an entire day, it’s one of Central Vermont’s best places to relax by the water.

Moss Glen Falls

Looking for a huge payoff with very little effort? Moss Glen Falls delivers. A short and easy walk brings you to one of Vermont’s most spectacular waterfalls. Cascading down a dramatic rock face surrounded by lush forest, it’s a must-see stop for visitors and photographers alike. It’s the perfect adventure when you want a memorable Vermont experience without a long hike.

Make a Day of It

One of our favorite summer itineraries looks something like this:

Morning swim at Bingham Falls or Warren Falls
Picnic, paddling, or fishing at Waterbury Reservoir
Quick stop at Moss Glen Falls for photos
Return to Zenbarn for dinner, drinks, and live music

That’s about as Vermont as it gets.

Whether you’re here for a wedding, concert, festival, or weekend getaway, we encourage you to explore the rivers, waterfalls, and swimming holes that make this region so special. These places have been enjoyed by generations of Vermonters and visitors alike, and they’re a big part of what makes summer in the Green Mountains unforgettable.
