Some bands play music. Other bands help shape the course of music history.

This summer, Zenbarn is honored to welcome back one of reggae's most influential and enduring groups, Black Uhuru, for their second appearance in Vermont at Zenbarn.

For reggae fans, Black Uhuru is more than a legendary band—they are one of the foundational groups that helped bring roots reggae to audiences around the world. Formed in Kingston, Jamaica in the early 1970s, Black Uhuru emerged during one of the most important periods in reggae history, helping define a sound and message that continues to inspire musicians and listeners decades later.

The group's groundbreaking fusion of roots reggae, dub, and socially conscious lyrics helped push the genre onto the international stage. In 1985, Black Uhuru became the first reggae band to win a Grammy Award, a milestone that helped establish reggae as a global musical force and paved the way for generations of artists to follow.

Throughout a career spanning more than five decades, Black Uhuru has remained committed to the core principles that made reggae such a powerful cultural movement: unity, resilience, spirituality, and truth. Their music has influenced countless artists across reggae, hip-hop, rock, and beyond, while songs like "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "Sinsemilla," and "Solidarity" remain staples of the genre.

What makes Black Uhuru especially remarkable is their ability to continue evolving while staying true to their roots. Their live performances remain powerful, energetic, and deeply relevant, connecting longtime fans with younger generations discovering their music for the first time.

At Zenbarn, reggae has always held a special place in our hearts. The music's emphasis on community, positivity, resistance to injustice, and celebration of life aligns closely with the values that have guided our venue from the beginning. There is something timeless about gathering together around great reggae music—something that feels both joyful and deeply meaningful.

That's why we're especially excited to welcome Black Uhuru back to Vermont for a second time. Opportunities to experience true reggae royalty in an intimate setting don't come around often, and we're honored that Zenbarn can provide a place for that connection to happen.

Whether you've followed Black Uhuru since the early days or are discovering their music for the first time, this promises to be a special evening celebrating one of the most important and influential reggae groups ever assembled.

Join us as we welcome reggae legends back to Vermont and celebrate a musical legacy that continues to inspire the world.

One love. We'll see you at the show.
